Accessibility

Mask Policy

We value the lives, joy and inclusion of Disabled and chronically people and enact this value through requiring and providing masks and keeping each other accountable to this. We honor queer HIV/AIDS activists by remaining critical of the CDC and wearing a mask.

Accessibility Requests

We want our accessibility accommodations to reflect the needs of people who will be at People’s Pride. Have a specific accessibility request? Email us at mplspeoplespride@gmail.com to make accommodation requests. We will try to fulfill as many access needs as possible, but can’t guarantee we can make it everything work.

Directions:

  • There will be a map on our MPLS People’s Pride Guide post (coming soon) as well as people to tell you where to go at the welcome table. There will be signs in English designating specific areas but they may not be easily visible due to being low to the ground and the size of the crowds.

Transportation:

  • Nearby bus lines: Route 5, Route 21, Route 14, and a little bit further away: Route 22 & 11

  • Proximity of bus lines to park: Route 5: about 0.2 miles west of People’s Pride, there’s a big hill between this route and the park, Route 21: about 0.2 miles north of Powderhorn Park and 0.4 miles away from People’s Pride, there are many hills between Pride and this stop. Route 14: this is the closest route to People’s Pride! 0.1  miles east of the park and Pride event! A little bit further away: Route 22 & 11: about 0.6 miles from Pride

Parking situation:

  • There are two (2) accessible parking spots in Powderhorn Park’s lot.

  • There are 26 undesignated parking spaces in Powderhorn Park’s lot.

  • There is street parking around the park. If you can walk longer distances and go up and down hills, please park further from the event and plan on walking, so people with limited mobility can get closer spots.

Masks:

  • People’s Pride is a mask-required space, so if you’re at the event, you should be masked! If you are physically able to wear a mask, we need you to do so! People who cannot wear a mask due to a disability are the only people who should be unmasked.

  • If you want or need a mask break, please go somewhere in the park away from the event to do so.

  • Around the pond, the vendors & stages & food areas are masked, in the sports area they are not required but appreciated.

  • While masks are required, this is a public space where there are people who cannot mask or are simply not attending our event. While we intend for this space to be as safe as possible, please do not forcefully engage with anyone for not masking - you do not know the reason for it and all we can do is offer masks and believe that people are doing what is best for the safety of themselves and our community.

Sensory Inputs:

  • Stage 1 & Stage 2 will have speakers and music for the duration of the event, and will be the main source of noise.

  • Speakers and musicians will be using a microphone.

  • The Chill Zone will be the quietest part of Pride.

  • There will be grilling during the duration of the event west of the recreation center on the southern side of Powderhorn, so there will be smoke in the area.

  • There are big trees throughout the park that make great shady spots to cool off in. A large portion of where the vendors are will likely be very sunny during Pride.

  • There may be large puppets wandering through.

  • We will not have any interpreters at this year’s Pride.

Paths:

  • The parking lot, welcome table, vendors, stages, food, and chill zone are all connected by paths. The sports will be off path but viewable from the paths.

  • Large sticks, weeds, and random items will removed from the paths the night before and the morning of the event

  • The paths do have some significant damage that will be outlined by bright colors

  • Paths and trails are all at least 36” wide at all points

  • There are paved paths throughout Powderhorn that are mostly flat but some sides/entrances to the park have extreme inclines/declines. The flattest entrance is by the Rec Center and parking lot

Seating:

  • There are picnic tables and benches around the park, with some not connected to the path.

  • There will be some chairs and blankets available at the welcome table that can be borrowed and returned

Extra Info:

  • Sharps Disposal will be available at the welcome table

  • Water Fountain near the parks & rec building

  • There will be two accessible porta potties available, as well as 8 others
